Palm Beach Travel Guide

Palm Beach is the slow version of Florida. Fewer crowds, better golf, quieter beaches, and a pace that suits people who have had enough of queuing.

Beaches, golf and Worth Avenue

The beaches

Long, clean and considerably less crowded than Miami. Public access points are well signposted along the coast. The water is calmer in the morning, which matters if you are swimming with children.

Golf

Palm Beach County has one of the highest concentrations of golf courses in the country, across every price point. Book tee times ahead in winter and spring, when the seasonal population doubles.

Worth Avenue and shopping

Worth Avenue is the landmark shopping street — designer stores, courtyards and architecture worth walking even if you buy nothing. CityPlace in West Palm Beach is the more everyday alternative.

Where to eat

The dining here is genuinely good rather than merely convenient, which is a real change from the theme park corridor. Book ahead in season.

Day trips

Fort Lauderdale is under an hour south. Miami is around an hour and a quarter. The Everglades and Lake Okeechobee are an hour west for a completely different landscape.
