Anyone who has tried to make a same-day flight connection to a cruise departure only does it once. Flights are delayed, luggage goes missing, and the ship does not wait. Staying locally the night before turns a stressful morning into a short drive.
The area is worth more than a stopover, though. Cocoa Beach is a genuine surf town with a proper Atlantic break. Kennedy Space Center is one of the best days out in Florida and easily fills a day. And if a launch is scheduled while you are here, it is worth rearranging your plans for — you can see them from the beach.
It also pairs well with the parks. Several days in Orlando, then two or three on the coast to slow down before flying home.

How early should we arrive before a cruise?
The night before, without exception. Same-day flights into Orlando for an afternoon sailing leave no margin, and cruise lines do not hold departures for delayed passengers.
How far is the cruise terminal?
Fifteen to twenty minutes from our Space Coast homes.
Can we book a transfer straight from the ship?
Yes, and you should. Disembarkation is early and thousands of people leave the terminal within a couple of hours, all wanting a vehicle at once. Book the return leg when you book the outbound.
Is it worth staying after the cruise too?
Often, yes. Flying the same day you disembark means an early start and a long wait at the airport. A night on the coast afterwards is usually cheaper than the airport hotel and considerably better.
